Parvovirus has a non-enveloped structure it lacks the lipid outer membrane that many common disinfectants work by destroying. Standard quaternary ammonium disinfectants (the most common category of pet-safe cleaner) are largely ineffective against Parvovirus. Even household bleach needs to be used at very specific concentrations and contact times to be virucidal and loses effectiveness rapidly in the presence of organic matter.
